We went to a "fishing" birthday party and this was the first time the girls have ever been fishing. We took them to the store and let them pick out there own fishing rods, which of course were girly. The party was at a local park and there is a small pond for kids to fish from. The girls were very excited about it and couldn't wait to get to the party. Once there, they were able to pick out a tackle box and several lures to use to try to catch some fish. Robert got their poles set-up and cast both of them out. He then tried to instruct them on the rules of fishing and how you have to be patient and wait for the bobber to move to know that you have a fish. He also showed them how to reel in the line once the fish was on the hook. However, this is easier said than done with two little girls. The minute he gave them there rods the only thing they wanted to do was reel in the line as fast as possible and cast it back out. The poor fish didn't stand a chance if they even wanted to take a bite off their lines!! After further instruction, they realized they had to wait patiently for the fish to bite. Apparently this wasn't very much fun, though, because they decided that they were tired of just standing there and declared fishing to be boring. Fortunately, the little boy next to us caught a fish, so the girls went running over to see. They both wanted to touch the fish and were excited once again and figured they would try a little longer to try to catch their own fish. A couple of minutes went by and Brianna caught a fish!! However, she now decided that she was scared of the fish and wouldn't reel in the line. With a little assistance from me, we were finally able to get the fish and show it to her. The girls have now been fishing, but I'm not sure how soon the next experience will be.
